Molly and Gracie love their new Doctor kit. In these photos Molly is the Dr. and Gracie is playing patient, and what a great patient she was. She sat still while Molly invaded her personal space and she let herself be "examined" for quite a while. Just one more way these two are getting along so well.

Meet Bucky
About a year ago I took some pictures with Molly and Baby Bear, her favorite toy. Gracie has a Baby Bear of her own which she likes but her favorite animal friend by far is Bucky, the Beaver. He is really soft and easy to cuddle with which she does every night when she goes to sleep. She likes to carry him around with her during the day. He deserved his own portrait. I set up Gracie and Bucky in the same spot on the same stool and got a few pictures of her with her best pal. Well, second best next to her big sister.

Happy Valentine's Day and Gung hay fat choy
Today is Chinese New Year and marks the first day of the new lunar year, the year of the Tiger. This holiday is the biggest holiday in China and also referred to as Spring Festivial and goes on for 15 days. We will be celebrating with our FCC chapter on the 27th and should have lots of fun photos to share from the party so stay tuned for those. This morning as we were getting ready to go out for breakfast Molly decided she wanted to wear her silk Chinese dress and of course Gracie had to change and wear hers also. To all of you buried under snow - yes it was this warm here today. Short sleeves, sunglasses...ah southern California. Of course, we do have snow. Right up there on the mountains, making the view even more beautiful.
Here are some great photos that Eric shot of the girls after breakfast.

Letting go of childish things
Marie came to a realization about Molly the other day. It was one of those moments that was sweet, a little sad and made Mom cry. (happy tears)
You see, Molly used to talk quite a lot about two imaginary friends, Sassafrass and Hoosenfoos. Blame Dad for the names. They started as just silly names to blame things on like burps or "who's kicking the back of my seat while Daddy drives?". She began talking about them quite a lot. Sassafrass in particular seemed to always be with us in the car, at home and at the park. It was sweet and she even drew pictures of them. I only very rarely felt as if I was in the opening scenes of a horror film.
Marie noticed the other day that Sassafrass and Hoosenfoos had gone away. She hadn't mentioned them in some time. Funny thing was, it conincided with bringing Gracie home.
The part that made Marie cry bittersweet tears was the realization that Molly no longer needed to invent companions, and the notion that she had that need before she had a sister.
Just today when Molly was picked up at school she told Marie, "Mom, I'm glad."
"What are you glad for?"
"Glad for my sister."
Molly is loving being a big sister, having a friend and constant playmate and having that void in her life filled.
We will miss Sassafrass a tiny bit – it was a unique window into her growing imagination – but we are so happy that an emptiness has been filled for our little Molly. And what a fill it is, too. She's glad? We're ALL glad we have Gracie.

Mom's little helper
Gracie just loves helping around the house and beams with pride when she completes a task. She sorts the laundry and helps put things in the washer. She loves to copy Molly so she has been following in her foot steps to take her plate to the sink after a meal. Here are some photos and a video of Gracie helping in the kitchen.
We're pushing the limits of the Bjorn Carrier
but it's the easiest way for Mom to get things done in the kitchen.
Can't resist adding a few beauty shots

The many faces of Miss Molly
It is amazing how well Molly follows Eric's direction when he shoots her photos. She has a blast and so does he! These are from last weekend, not much photo taking this weekend since Molly picked up Pink Eye at school. She's done a great job of staying on top of the hand washing, not as easy to keep her from touching Gracie since they are having so much fun together these days. Molly does not like getting drops in her eyes 4 times a day and I have no idea how I will do this on my own when Eric returns to work tomorrow. So far Mom, Dad and Gracie have stayed clear of the Pink Eye. Let's hope I don't have to post about this topic again!
